Rose-painted Calathea Dottie Plant

Rose-painted Calathea Dottie Plant is a real eye-catching plant for interior rooms. This evergreen perennial also known as Calathea roseopicta ‘Surprise Star’. It has oval burgundy colour glossy leaves with bright hashed pink border and a central pink stroke. Leaves underside is purple. Calathea is known as “Prayer Plant” because of the foliage tends to close up in the evening and unfold again during daylight hours. Calathea Dottie is an ideal container plant for a shaded patio, tropical gardens, or indoors.

Origin: Upper Amazon in North West Brazil, tropical South America.

Plant type: Tropical perennial ornamental plant.

Light: Partial sunny location, Shady spot with Indirect light. Direct sunlight will cause the leaves to fade and lose their markings.

Water: Calathea must be kept in damp soil at all times, but make sure it is well-drained.

Soil: Well-drained soil or a good quality potting mix.

Temperature: Prefers warm to high temperatures, ideally between 15-23°C. Try to avoid draughts and ensure the plant has consistent ventilation.

Humidity: Calathea requires high humidity levels. Occupy on a wet pebble tray to improve humidity and spray frequently.

Fertilizer: Apply a slow-release fertilizer yearly and a weak dose of a nitrogen-rich foliage fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season for vibrant healthy foliage.

Care: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove accumulated dust. Do not use leaf shine as this will damage the foliage. Remove the old leaves for a quick trim up.

Height : Ultimate height 40-60cm. Calathea roseopicta is a moderately fast-growing house plant. The average size of our plants will be 15 -30 cm tall and spread as wide.
